Treatment SummaryTriamcinolone is a steroid used to treat various types of inflammation, from allergies to multiple sclerosis. It can be used as a one-time treatment for knee pain related to arthritis, or as a topical treatment for skin conditions. There are several forms of triamcinolone, including hexacetonide, acetonide, and diacetate. Triamcinolone was approved by the FDA in 1957, and in 2021 a suspension of triamcinolone acetonide was approved for suprachoroidal injection to treat macular edema associated with uveitis.

How Aristocort Affects PatientsTriamcinolone is a type of medication which reduces inflammation in many areas of the body. It should not be injected directly into the spine.

How Aristocort works in the bodyTriamcinolone helps reduce inflammation. It does this by limiting the breakdown of cell membranes which prevents the formation of certain acids. These acids are responsible for producing signals that cause inflammation. Triamcinolone also helps by making blood vessels less wide, and reducing the number of cells that flow to sites of inflammation.

When to interrupt dosage

The advised portion of Aristocort is contingent upon the determined condition, including Mycosis Fungoides (MF), Mycoses and Alopecia Areata (AA). The amount of dosage fluctuates as per the technique of delivery (e.g. Ointment or Injection, suspension - Intralesional; Parenteral) featured in the table beneath.

Aristocort Toxicity & Overdose RiskThe lowest toxic dose of triamcinolone acetonide for rats is 13,100µg/kg and 132mg/kg for mice. In rats, the lowest toxic dose is 1451mg/kg and 2168mg/kg in mice. When administered through the abdomen, the lowest toxic dose is 105mg/kg in mice. Those who overdose on triamcinolone acetonide may develop Cushing's syndrome, which can be treated with supportive therapy and mifepristone.
