How Ditropan Xl Affects Patients
Oxybutynin helps to relieve the symptoms of an overactive bladder, such as frequent and urgent urination, by blocking certain receptors (muscarinic receptors). Angioedema (swelling) is a possible side effect of taking this drug and should be monitored for. Other possible side effects include hallucinations, confusion, agitation, and drowsiness. It is important to assess the response to oxybutynin before operating heavy machinery or driving. Dose adjustments may also be necessary.
How Ditropan Xl works in the body
Oxybutynin relaxes the bladder muscles by blocking the effects of acetylcholine. This increases the bladder's capacity, reducing the urge to urinate and making it easier to control when going to the bathroom. The active ingredient in oxybutynin is N-desethyloxybutynin, which works by preventing the muscarinic receptors in your bladder from being activated.
