Treatment Summary
Chloroquine is a drug that was developed in the 1940s to treat malaria. For a long time, it was the most common treatment for malaria until newer drugs like pyrimethamine, artemisinin, and mefloquine were created. In recent years, chloroquine and its derivative hydroxychloroquine have been used to treat other conditions such as HIV, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis. In 2020, the FDA gave emergency use authorization for hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine as treatments for COVID-19, but this authorization was revoked in June. Chlor

Effectiveness
How Aralen Affects Patients
Chloroquine stops the growth of a certain type of parasite. It is effective for a long time, with a half-life of up to two months. It is important to warn patients that taking this drug for an extended period of time or in large doses can cause vision problems, muscle weakness, and potential toxicity in children.
How Aralen works in the body
Chloroquine works against malaria by stopping a molecule called heme polymerase from converting heme into a toxic compound. It also stops viruses from entering cells by increasing the pH of certain organelles, like endosomes and lysosomes. Chloroquine also affects the glycosylation state of ACE2, which is the receptor that SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2 use to enter cells. This makes it harder for the virus to attach to the ACE2 receptor and enter the cell.
When to interrupt dosage
The measure of Aralen is based upon the diagnosed condition, such as Porphyria Cutanea Tarda, Actinic prurigo and acute, uncomplicated Malaria. The amount also depends on the procedure of delivery specified in the table beneath.
