Treatment Summary

Tobramycin is an antibiotic drug used to treat a wide range of infections caused by both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It is most commonly used to treat chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections in cystic fibrosis patients. Tobramycin can be taken by inhalation, injection, or applied externally to the eye. The drug, which was approved by the FDA in 1975, has some potential side effects such as nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity, but is still a valuable option in the face of antibiotic resistance.

Effectiveness

How Tobradex St Affects Patients

Tobramycin is an antibiotic that has a wide range of activity against certain bacteria. It is taken up by cells in the kidney and ear, which can cause damage to these areas and lead to side effects like hearing loss, kidney damage, and muscle weakness. It can also cross the placenta, potentially leading to deafness in babies born to mothers who took it during pregnancy. All forms of tobramycin can also cause allergic reactions, including severe skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis.

How Tobradex St works in the body

Tobramycin is an antibiotic that kills certain bacteria. It works by binding to the bacterial cells and allowing more of the drug to enter the cell. This increases the permeability of the cell's membrane and causes it to break down. Inside the cell, tobramycin stops the cell from making proteins, which stops the bacteria from reproducing. Bacteria can develop a resistance to tobramycin by making changes to their proteins, or by making changes to tobramycin itself. Tobramycin is not effective against anaerobic bacteria.

When to interrupt dosage

The recommended amount of Tobradex St is contingent upon the diagnosed condition, such as Cystic Fibrosis (CF), steroid-responsive inflammation and Bacterial Meningitis. The quantity of dosage is contingent on the approach of administration as stated in the table below.

Tobradex St Toxicity & Overdose Risk

Tobramycin can be dangerous in large doses and may lead to kidney damage, hearing loss, nerve or muscle problems, and difficulty breathing. If someone overdoses, symptomatic and supportive treatments should be administered and dialysis may help remove the drug from the body. Fortunately, it is very difficult to overdose on tobramycin due to poor absorption in the digestive tract. Animal studies have found that the lethal dose for mice and rats ranges from 367-1030 mg/kg when given through injections, but it is greater than 7500 mg/kg when taken orally.

Tobradex St for Inflammation of the Eye

I had an allergic reaction in my eyes and went to the doctor. He prescribed me this medication along with Pataday. I have to say, both of them together really worked well for me and I'm feeling 100% better now.

Tobradex St for Inflammation of the Front Portion of the Eye

After using this drop for about a week, my eyelid drooped. My doctor acted like it was no big deal and said there's nothing that can be done about it. Predforte has worked for me for almost 20 years with no problems, so I'll stick to that instead.

Tobradex St for Allergic Conjunctivitis

This treatment is effectively getting rid of my staph infection, but the drowsiness side effect is really extreme. I've fallen asleep during church service and movies before, which is really embarrassing. Has anyone else experienced this side effect?

Patient Q&A Section about tobradex st

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.

Is Tobradex ST a steroid?

"Tobradex ST is a combination of tobramycin, an antibiotic, and dexamethasone, a steroid. It is used to treat bacterial infections of the eyes."

Answered by AI

How long should I use Tobradex eye drops?

"Place one drop in each eye that is affected every 4 to 6 hours while the patient is awake. The dosage may be increased to one drop every two hours during the first 24 to 48 hours. Dosing should not exceed 14 days."

Answered by AI

What is the difference between Tobradex and Tobradex ST?

"While TobraDex ST contains half the amount of dexamethasone as the original TobraDex formulation, it appears to be clinically equivalent to the older formulation."

Answered by AI

What is Tobradex ST used for?

"Dexamethasone belongs to a class of drugs called corticosteroids. It works by decreasing inflammation.

This medication is used to treat or prevent eye infections, containing two drugs. Tobramycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Dexamethasone, a corticosteroid, works by decreasing inflammation."

GX-03 for Eczema

18 - 70
All Sexes
Irving, TX

This is a randomized, double-blind, vehicle-controlled clinical study designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of GX-03, a topically applied emollient, in adult subjects with moderate to severe eczema. Approximately 120 adult participants will be enrolled and randomized in a 1:1 ratio to receive either GX-03 or a petrolatum-based vehicle control for 8 consecutive weeks. Efficacy will be assessed using validated clinical outcome measures, including the Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI), the Validated Investigator Global Assessment for Atopic Dermatitis (vIGA-AD™), and the Peak Pruritus Numeric Rating Scale (PP-NRS). Safety will be evaluated through monitoring of treatment-emergent adverse events throughout the study period.

Haskap Berries for Exercise Performance Recovery

18 - 35
All Sexes
Bozeman, MT

The purpose of this clinical trial is to determine how certain food items affect oxidative stress, inflammation, and performance recovery from exercise induced muscle damage in a resistance trained population. The main questions The investigators aim to answer are the following: * Do Haskaps speed the recovery of oxidative stress and inflammation markers after an intense lower body workout in resistance trained adults? * Do Haskaps speed the recovery of performance measures after an intense lower body workout in resistance trained adults? * The data collected in this investigation may also be used to ask additional questions not yet identified. For example, the investigators may use the stored samples to evaluate how the blood metabolites of participants differ before and after intense exercise. These additional questions are called secondary analyses. Please note that no genetic analysis will be conducted and racial and ethnic differences among participants will not be used in any secondary analyses. Researches will compare Haskap juice to a color, flavor and carbohydrate matched placebo to see if Haskaps speed recovery in inflammation, oxidative stress and performance. * Participants will be asked to drink either Haskap juice or placebo and follow a low polyphenolic diet * Participants will perform an intense resistance workout * Participants will have their blood drawn before and after the workout * Performance will be analyzed at 24, 48 and 72 hours after the workout

Vancomycin for Ulcerative Colitis

18+
All Sexes
Hamilton, Canada

This clinical trial tests if oral vancomycin can safely treat active ulcerative colitis (UC) in adults who also have primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), a liver condition. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Can oral vancomycin improve UC symptoms as measured by Mayo score at 4 weeks? * Is oral vancomycin safe and tolerable in this patient group? Participants will be compared to see if vancomycin works better than placebo. Participants will: * Take oral vancomycin (250 mg twice daily) or identical placebo capsules for 4 weeks * Have the option for 4 more weeks of open-label vancomycin after the blinded phase * Attend clinic visits at baseline, week 4, and follow-up for Mayo scoring, endoscopy, blood/stool tests, and safety checks * Track treatment adherence and side effects The study primarily assesses if the trial can recruit 14 participants, retain them, achieve good adherence, and follow protocol procedures (feasibility). Secondary goals include safety (adverse events) and early signs of benefit in UC activity, liver tests, and gut bacteria balance. This pilot will guide larger future studies.

Cryotherapy + Triamcinolone for Keloid Scars

18+
All Sexes
Pittsburgh, PA

The goal of this clinical trial is to determine whether the application of brief topical cryotherapy immediately before intralesional corticosteroid injections can reduce pain and injection resistance during routine treatment of keloid and hypertrophic scars in adult patients. The main questions it aims to answer are: Does topical cryotherapy applied before intralesional triamcinolone injection impact pain perceptions for participants with keloids or hypertrophic scars? Does topical cryotherapy affect provider-assessed injection resistance compared with standard injection alone? Researchers will split the keloid/hypertrophic scar into two halves. One half will be treated with cryotherapy followed by steroid injection, while the other half will be treated with steroid injection alone to evaluate differences in pain perception and injection resistance. Participants will rate pain after each injection using a 10-point numeric pain scale. Clinicians will rate the resistance after each injection using a 10-point numeric scale.

Tailored Recommendations for Infant Gut Microbiome

No minimum age - 3
All Sexes
Austin, TX

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn whether microbiome analysis, education, and personalized recommendations can improve gut health and reduce early markers of immune-related conditions in infants aged 0-3 months delivered via Cesarean section. The study aims to determine whether these interventions can increase beneficial bacteria, decrease C-section-associated microbiome signatures, reduce opportunistic pathogens, and improve functional potential for HMO digestion and SCFA production. The study also seeks to assess whether improvements in microbiome composition are associated with a reduced prevalence of early atopic symptoms. Researchers will compare three groups: a full intervention arm that receives microbiome reports, coaching, personalized recommendations, and educational materials; a limited intervention arm that receives simplified reports and basic recommendations; and a control arm that receives no results until study completion. This design allows evaluation of both a comprehensive intervention and a more scalable, minimal-results model. Participants will: 1. Provide six microbiome stool samples over a 24-month period. 2. Provide additional small stool samples at two timepoints for exploratory metabolomic analysis. 3. Receive microbiome reports and guidance according to their assigned study arm. 4. Complete surveys on infant health history, symptoms, diet, and environmental exposures. 5. Participate in standardized eczema assessment(s) administered by a Nurse Practitioner and evaluated by a Pediatric Allergy Specialist if any symptoms are reported. This study seeks to demonstrate that targeted microbiome support can positively shift gut microbial development in C-section infants and may reduce risks linked to the early stages of the atopic march. Findings may inform scalable strategies for delivering microbiome-based support in early life and improve long-term health outcomes for this high-risk population.

LLM-Based Education for Cataract Surgery

18+
All Sexes
Palo Alto, CA

Patients with cataracts disease need to choose what type of artificial lens will go into their eye prior to surgery date. Some lenses are standard and are usually covered by insurance. Other "premium" lenses have various benefits such as reducing the need for glasses but usually require out-of-pocket costs. The combined busy outpatient clinic and complexity of artificial lens choices in the ever-changing world of cataract surgery tends to lead patients confused about their available lens options. There is an abundance of educational material present in premium lenses, however these are limited by accessibility and are standardized at single educational levels. Therefore in the present study, we want to test whether giving patients a short LLM powered AI-guided explanation from Custom GPT from OpenAI of lens options prior to their consultation with their doctor can improve visit efficiency, physician explanation and patient understanding of lens options. We will compare two groups: standard of care versus standard of care plus AI education. The LLM in this study is intended to provide supplemental information about premium intraocular lens(IOLs) options to study participants, and is no means supposed to replace a health care professional in the diagnosis, cure, treatment, and/or mitigation of disease. Study is analogous to giving a verified health pamphlet to a patient for them to view and learn different IOL options, in other words, facilitating patient understanding of their options. The LLM will be trained by several health care professionals and MD specialists to provide sufficient instructions. Sources will include verified online resources and MD information. The investigators hope to learn if a large language model-based educational tool can improve visit efficiency, physician explanation and patient understanding of intraocular lens options. New knowledge of this study could guide how cataract counseling is delivered in the future and may help clinics spend more time on individualized questions instead of repeating generic information.

Mediterranean Diet for Toddler Health

24 - 36
All Sexes
Fredericton, Canada

Toddlerhood (ages 2-3) is a critical window when the gut microbiome is still developing and eating habits are being established. Yet, many Canadian toddlers eat diets high in sugar and salt, which may affect long-term health. This study will test whether a MED diet can improve dietary inflammation, gut health, and body composition in toddlers and whether a tailored nutrition education program for parents can help families maintain healthy eating patterns. In this study, toddlers will be randomly assigned to a 3-week MED diet or their usual diet. Families in the MED diet group will receive free meal boxes for the 3 weeks, plus guidance from a nutrition researcher through a structured education program. The standard diet group will continue their regular diet with general nutrition advice. Researchers will collect dietary information, body composition assessments, and stool samples to measure gut microbiome composition and metabolites. This first study of a controlled diet intervention in toddlers, combining behavioral support, high-quality food provision, and advanced gut microbiome analysis, will help understand how early diet shapes lifelong eating habits and health, guiding public health strategies and precision nutrition approaches to prevent chronic disease from early life.
