Effectiveness

How Tinidazole Affects PatientsTinidazole is a medicine used to treat infections caused by protozoa, which are tiny single-celled organisms. Tinidazole has been shown to be effective against the protozoa Trichomonas vaginalis, Giardia duodenalis (also known as G. lamblia), and Entamoeba histolytica. Tinidazole does not seem to affect the bacteria in the vagina that helps protect against infection.
How Tinidazole works in the bodyTinidazole is an antiprotozoal medication. In some parasites, tinidazole is broken down into a toxic free radical that damages the DNA and kills the cell. It is not known exactly how tinidazole works against other parasites, but it is likely similar.

When to interrupt dosage

The proposed measure of Tinidazole is reliant upon the detected illness, for example Urethritis, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Trichomoniasis. The sum of dosage may differ, in accordance with the delivery strategy (e.g. Tablet, film coated or Tablet, film coated - Oral) depicted in the table beneath.

Tinidazole Reviews: What are patients saying about Tinidazole?

Tinidazole for Vaginosis caused by Bacteria
I followed the instructions and didn't have any issues other than a weird metal taste in my mouth. I was told to drink lots of water and that solved the problem. The medication worked perfectly otherwise, though my heartbeat was rapid.

Tinidazole for Infection that causes Diarrhea - Giardiasis
For Giardia, this medication is highly effective. Within hours of a single dose, Tinidazole eradicates the parasite completely. Symptoms ease within 24 hours and patients are back to normal within 48 hours. The only side effect for the single dose treatment is a metallic taste in your mouth for 12-24 hours.

Tinidazole for Infection that causes Diarrhea - Giardiasis
I've had to take this medication twice now, unfortunately. Both times it's worked very quickly which is great. The first time I didn't experience any side effects, but the second time I got a really bad metallic taste in my mouth and some mild stomach cramping.

Tinidazole for Vaginosis caused by Bacteria
I had a slight bad taste in my mouth for the two days I needed to take this.. a little loss of appetite but overall that was it. I was sure to take this with a full stomach first thing in the morning, avoided anything acidic and definitely did not drink any alcohol. I think my experience was a good one with this medication.

I took four 500mg tablets at once as directed, but soon after I began to experience some very unpleasant side effects. These include a metallic taste in my mouth, diarrhea, stomach pain, and back pain. I hope that these will go away soon so that the treatment can be effective.

Tinidazole for Severe Intestinal Infection due to Entamoeba Histolytica
I tried this medication when I was sick for 18 months. The first dose made me feel nauseous and I spent the entire day and night on my couch. I didn't take any more of the pills because I couldn't handle the side effects, even though the medicine might have worked.

Tinidazole for Vaginosis caused by Bacteria
I had an incredibly negative experience taking this medication. I was vomiting, had diarrhea, and severe body aches and cramps. These effects lightheadedness that lasted for a few days. I ended up going to urgent care because I thought I had a bad reaction to the medication. They wrote it off as a stomach bug but after doing some research, I'm convinced it was the medication. Others have had similar reactions. Would not recommend and would never take again.

Houston, TX
The purpose of this study is to tailor existing sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) services with same-day HIV prophylaxis and substance use screening, brief intervention, or referral using semi-structured adolescents and young adults (AYA) survivor and key informant interviews, and iterative co-design/pilot testing of adapted strategies with the youth working group (YWG), to optimize study mechanisms and outcome measures using cognitive interviews, analysis of community partner data, and recruitment and retention strategies with the youth working group (YWG) and community advisory board (CAB), to conduct a pilot randomized controlled trial with 40 AYA to test feasibility, acceptability, and initial efficacy compared to usual care, to evaluate recruitment, randomization, and follow-up strategies; adherence to intervention dose; retention benchmarks; and acceptability and to evaluate preliminary efficacy of outcome measures (uptake of post-assault HIV prevention and substance use treatment).

Houston, TX
The purpose of this study is to examine the efficacy of Code of Respect (X-CoRe) multi-level sexual assault (SA) and harassment (SH) prevention program in improving psychosocial determinants (e.g., knowledge, skills, self-efficacy, attitudes) related to respectful/disrespectful relationships, to examine the efficacy of X-CoRe in reducing SA and sexual harassment SH victimization and to examine the efficacy of X-CoRe increasing bystander behavior and improving unit cohesion and mission readiness by decreasing secondary risk and harmful behaviors (e.g., alcohol misuse, intimate partner violence, suicide ideation). The study will be conducted at at Joint Base McGuire Dix-Lakehurst (JBMDL) located in Burlington County, New Jersey, and participants will be cluster-randomized at the level of the squadron to one of two conditions: the X-CoRe program or a control condition.

Menstrual Cups for Vaginal Infections

15 - 35
Female
Chicago, IL
HIV remains a global pandemic with 37 million infected. In western Kenya, 16% of women in the general population and 29% of the poorest women have HIV. The HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) epidemics overlap with broader reproductive health concerns. Menstrual hygiene management is a big problem in low- and middle-income countries and a lack of menstrual products negatively impacts women's work-life. This comes from cultural taboos, stigma, and discrimination, promoting secrecy around menstruation, high cost of menstrual products, use of traditional materials (e.g. rags, cotton wool, etc.) causing leakage and odor, and lack of water and safe hygiene facilities. Menstrual cups designed for use during sex may help women prevent Bacterial vaginosis (BV) and STIs through hygienic period practices, and may help them avoid bad practices in an attempt to maintain vaginal dryness. The goal of this interventional trial is to test the impact of menstrual cups on vaginal microbiome, BV, and STIs of poor women at high risk for STIs and HIV. We predict to see 25% less BV, our primary outcome, over one year. This trial aims to learn more about the safety of the intervention, and understand what is needed to fully implement the program.

AWARE Program for Survivors of Sexual Trauma

18 - 24
Female
Providence, RI
The goal of this clinical trial is to develop and evaluate the preliminary efficacy of an intervention to address alcohol use, sexual distress, and sexual assault risk among college women with a history of sexual victimization. The main questions it aims to answer are: 1) what is the feasibility of the recruitment method, research design, interventionist training methods, and delivery of the intervention; 2) does the intervention, relatively to control, the 2- and 6-month follow-up produces reductions in the quantity/frequency of alcohol use and heavy drinking, sexual distress, and sex-related drinking motives, and sexual revictimization. Participants will engage in both individual and group based intervention for alcohol use, sexual distress, and sexual assault risk. Follow-up assessments are completed at 2- and 6-months following program completion. The intervention will be compared to a general health promotion control group.

Personalized Integrated Prevention Program for Reducing Heavy Drinking and Sexual Assault on College Campuses

18 - 25
All Sexes
Atlanta, GA
Heavy episodic drinking and sexual assault are problematic on college campuses. This study includes a randomized controlled trial of Positive Change (+Change), an integrated alcohol and sexual assault prevention program, compared to an attention-matched control condition across two universities in reducing alcohol use, sexual assault victimization, sexual assault perpetration, and increasing sexual assault bystander intervention. This study will also test the efficacy of +Change plus Booster session, an identical version of +Change delivered 6 months after the baseline, compared to +Change alone in long-term reductions in alcohol use, sexual assault victimization, sexual assault perpetration, and increases in sexual assault bystander intervention. This research is the next step of a NIAAA-funded planning grant (R34AA025691).
