Summary

This trial tests if adding a short naloxone education session to pre-surgery classes helps patients and their support persons be ready to use naloxone in case of an opioid overdose. It targets patients having hip or knee surgery who will use opioids for pain. Naloxone can save lives by reversing opioid overdoses. Naloxone is a medication that can reverse opioid overdoses and has been used in various community and clinical settings to reduce mortality.

Group II: Standard EducationActive Control1 Intervention
These participants will receive the standard pre-hospital education including pain management and opioid safety, but will not specifically be given the new naloxone-education module in the pre-hospital setting
