Summary

This trial will explore if controlling both speed and cadence during treadmill training may elicit more benefits than controlling speed alone in individuals with Parkinson's disease.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for individuals aged 18-89 with Parkinson's Disease who can walk at least 15 meters unaided and use a treadmill for at least 15 minutes. Participants must understand English. It excludes those with uncontrolled heart, lung or metabolic diseases, other neurological disorders affecting walking, recent leg injuries, or visual/communication disorders.
What is being tested?
The study tests two types of treadmill training in people with Parkinson's: one that combines speed and step rhythm (cadence) and another that controls speed alone to see which method offers more benefits.
What are the potential side effects?
Potential side effects may include fatigue due to exercise, muscle soreness, joint pain from repetitive movement on the treadmill, and an increased risk of falls during training sessions.

Study Objectives

Study objectives can provide a clearer picture of what you can expect from a treatment.
Primary study objectives
Change from Baseline in the Gait Speed Determined based on the Time Measured by A Stop Watch and the 10-meter Walking Distance at Post-intervention Assessment Which Is about One Hour Later Than the Baseline Test.
Secondary study objectives
Change from Baseline in Dynamic Gait Stability Assessed by the Feasible Stability Region Theory at Post-intervention Assessment Which Is about One Hour Later Than the Baseline Test.
Change from Baseline in Ground Reaction Force Assessed by Force Plates at Post-intervention Assessment Which Is about One Hour Later Than the Baseline Test.
Change from Baseline in the Step Cadence as Assessed by the Vicon Motion Capture System at Post-intervention Assessment Which Is about One Hour Later Than the Baseline Test.
