What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to improve the identification and classification of thyroid nodules using sound waves (acoustic imaging) and their compressibility (viscoelastic parameters). The goal is to simplify the detection of cancerous nodules. Participants will undergo ultrasound imaging of the neck area. This trial suits individuals aged 8 years or older who have been advised of a potential thyroid cancer diagnosis or have noticeable neck lumps. As an unphased trial, it offers participants the chance to contribute to innovative research that could enhance diagnostic methods for thyroid conditions.

Do I need to stop my current medications for the trial?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It's best to discuss this with the trial coordinators or your doctor.

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about this trial because it explores a new method for identifying and differentiating thyroid nodules using acoustic imaging and viscoelastic parameters. Unlike traditional options like fine-needle aspiration biopsies or standard ultrasounds, this approach could offer a non-invasive and potentially more accurate way to assess thyroid nodules. By focusing on the unique mechanical properties of the nodules, this technique aims to improve diagnostic precision and reduce the need for unnecessary surgeries, providing a safer and more efficient option for patients.
