What is Cefixime

CefiximeThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryCefixime is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It is a third-generation cephalosporin, similar to ceftriaxone and cefotaxime, and is very stable against enzymes called beta-lactamases that can reduce the effectiveness of other antibiotics. Cefixime can be used to treat bacteria that are resistant to penicillins and some cephalosporins. The drug works by preventing the bacteria from making the proteins needed for their cell walls.

Effectiveness

How Cefixime Affects PatientsCefixime is an antibiotic that belongs to a group of drugs called cephalosporins. It is better able to fight infections caused by bacteria that produce a certain enzyme (beta-lactamase) that makes other antibiotics less effective. Cefixime works by stopping the bacteria from making the parts it needs to build its cell wall, which weakens and kills the bacteria.
How Cefixime works in the bodyCefixime works by stopping bacteria from being able to build their cell walls. It does this by binding to proteins inside the cell wall that are responsible for synthesis. This prevents the bacteria from properly forming its protection, causing it to break down and die. It may also interfere with an enzyme that helps keep the bacteria alive.

When to interrupt dosage

The proposed dosage of Cefixime is contingent upon the diagnosed condition, including bacterial rhinosinusitis, Streptococcal Pharyngitis and Tonsillitis. The amount of dosage relies upon the approach of administration (e.g. Powder, for suspension - Oral or Tablet - Oral), elucidated in the following table.

Cefixime for Severe Sinusitis caused by Moraxella Catarrhalis
The diarrhea is unfortunately a common side effect of this medication, but it does work well against sinus infections. I would recommend eating yogurt and taking probiotics to help offset any issues with Cdiff.

Cefixime for Middle Ear Infection
I had a severe headache the first day on this medication, to the point where I needed Panadol. The second day, the pain in my ear was still present but not nearly as bad, though the headache returned with a vengeance. On the third day, I couldn't take it anymore and went to bed. The next morning I saw a doctor.

What is cefixime used for?

"Cefixime is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth."

Answered by AI

Is cefixime a strong antibiotic?

"Cefixime is a strong antibiotic that is effective against a wide range of bacteria."

Answered by AI

Is cefixime can treat UTI?

"Cefixime is a new oral cephalosporin that is more active against enterobacteriaceae than conventional oral cephalosporins. As active drug is excreted by the kidneys in about 20% of cases, cefixime may be a good alternative for the treatment of urinary tract infection (UTI)."

Answered by AI

Is cefixime a type of penicillin?

"Cefixime is an antibiotic that belongs to the group of drugs known as cephalosporins. These drugs are similar to penicillins in their effects and are often used to treat infections that are resistant to penicillins. Cefixime is particularly effective against infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing organisms."
