Effectiveness

How Lovaza Affects PatientsOmega-3-acid ethyl esters can help lower triglyceride levels, increase the breakdown of fat, prevent fat from being released into the bloodstream, clear out triglycerides faster, and decrease the amount of VLDL-C (very low density lipoprotein cholesterol) in the body.
How Lovaza works in the bodyOmega-3-acid ethyl esters help reduce triglyceride levels in the body. The exact mechanism is unknown, but it is thought that the drug blocks enzymes involved in the production of triglycerides, increases fat metabolism, and increases the breakdown of triglycerides. It also competes with other enzymes to decrease the production of VLDL-C.

Lovaza for High Amount of Triglyceride in the Blood
I started taking Lovaza a month ago in order to get my triglycerides under control. However, after taking it for a month and getting my labs retaken, I've seen that all of the numbers on my lipid panel have gone up by 75 points or more. Everything is now in the high range. I will be stopping this medication today and never taking it again!
