Effectiveness

How Kionex Affects PatientsPolystyrene sulfonate helps balance levels of sodium and potassium in the body. It is used to treat hyperkalemia, which is too much potassium in the blood. It is given orally or rectally, usually in a solution with sorbitol.
How Kionex works in the bodyPolystyrene sulfonate binds to extra potassium in the body and carries it out in the stool. By doing this, it prevents the potassium from entering the bloodstream and lowers the amount of potassium in the body.

Kionex for High Amount of Potassium in the Blood
I have no trouble taking this powder. If mixed/stirred with a small amount of liquid at first to dissolve, then adding the rest of the liquid and drinking very quickly, it is very palatable. I find no taste or aftertaste at all...I even take it with water.

Kionex for High Amount of Potassium in the Blood
If you mix it with cranberry juice and little water it is palatabel. You have to watch out for constipation, but a good diet in high fiber will take care of it.

Kionex for High Amount of Potassium in the Blood
The texture and flavor of this treatment is really unappealing, but I know it's saving my life. I have to be careful about my potassium intake now, which can be difficult, but it's worth it.

Kionex for High Amount of Potassium in the Blood
It's not the best tasting medication, but it gets the job done. It tastes like mushed bananas to me, which is ironic since it is supposed to reduce potassium found in things like bananas. Yeah, it's gritty, but three sips and it's gone. Follow with your favorite non alcohol beverage and you're done. No bad bathroom side effects for me

Kionex for High Amount of Potassium in the Blood
The texture is very gritty and it tastes terrible, but it's effective. It also makes quite a mess when you're mixing it.

Kionex for High Amount of Potassium in the Blood
The medication is not palatable - gritty, salty tating and tated like over ripe bananas. It made me very nauseated and had difficulty keeping it down. It also caused duarrhea which was inconvenient. I REALLY wish it could be made into a capsule, caplet or pill of some form which would make it much easier to take; however, even the distasteful liquid by mouth is much better than the alternative administration!

Kionex for High Amount of Potassium in the Blood
The after taste is unfortunately quite terrible, but it does work well to lower potassium levels. It also causes diarrhea, which has me wondering how exactly it manages to get rid of potassium in the first place.

Kionex for High Amount of Potassium in the Blood
I've never complained about taking pills before, but this medication is really unpleasant. It's not the flavor, but the grittiness makes it tough to take. And the diarrhea it causes is really bad. I won't be able to leave the house while taking this. But I know it's necessary to get rid of the excess potassium in my system.

My monthly labwork has shown that this treatment helps to reduce the amount of potassium in my blood, which is a great relief. However, the taste is terrible and it can cause some pretty bad diarrhea. Please create a pill form!

Kionex for High Amount of Potassium in the Blood
The taste was really bad, but I was able to get it down with some water. Unfortunately, it gave me diarrhea, which I later found out is a common side effect. I'm hoping the treatment is effective so that I don't have to go through that again.
