Summary
This trial will help researchers understand if a personality-targeted intervention, in addition to regular treatment, can help reduce alcohol and illicit drug use in adolescents with mental health problems.
Who is the study for?
This trial is for adolescents aged 14-17 with mood or anxiety disorders and substance abuse issues, who are seeking psychiatric help. They must have a parent or guardian's consent to participate.
What is being tested?
The study tests if adding a personality-targeted intervention to regular treatment helps reduce alcohol and drug problems in youths. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive this cognitive-behavioural intervention or no additional intervention.
What are the potential side effects?
Since the interventions are non-medical (cognitive-behavioral therapy), typical medication side effects aren't expected. However, discussing sensitive topics might cause temporary distress.
