What is Fenofibric Acid

Fenofibric acidThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryFenofibric acid is a medication that is used to lower levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. It works by lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and apolipoprotein B, while increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Because the medication is not easily absorbed by the body, prodrugs and other compounds have been developed to improve its absorption and make it easier to take.

Effectiveness

How Fenofibric Acid Affects PatientsStudies have shown that high levels of cholesterol, LDL-C (low-density lipoprotein), and apolipoprotein B (which is part of an LDL membrane complex) are linked to atherosclerosis. At the same time, lower levels of HDL-C (high-density lipoprotein) and apolipoproteins apo AI and apo AII are linked to atherosclerosis. Research has also found that cardiovascular disease and death are related to the levels of total cholesterol, LDL-C, and triglycerides, but inversely related to the level of HDL-C. Taking fenof
How Fenofibric Acid works in the bodyFenofibric acid works by activating a receptor in the body called PPAR-alpha. This causes lipolysis, which breaks down fatty particles in the blood. It also makes bigger, cholesterol-absorbing particles which are quickly broken down and removed from the body. Fenofibric acid also increases the amount of beneficial proteins in the blood, such as apoproteins A-I and A-II, as well as high-density lipoproteins. Finally, it helps reduce uric acid levels in both regular and hyperuricemic individuals by increasing the amount of uric acid that is removed from the body

Fenofibric Acid for Combined High Blood Cholesterol and Triglyceride Level
My triglyceride level was very high, over 900, and my total cholesterol was 350. However, after my doctor switched me to Fenofibric Acid and Pravastatin, combining the two dropped my triglycerides to 150 and my total cholesterol to just 200 in three months. I've been on the new drugs for six months now with no issues.

Fenofibric Acid for High Amount of Triglyceride in the Blood
I was unaware that sleeplessness was a potential side effect of this medication. After taking it for approximately one month, I started having pretty severe insomnia. However, after doing some research I found out that while it is possible, it's not very common. Once I stopped the medication, the insomnia went away as well.

Fenofibric Acid for Osteoporosis
I didn't have a great experience with this medication. I felt like it made me retain water, which led to weight gain and dry skin. Once I stopped taking the medication, all of those symptoms went away.

Answered by AI

What is the difference between fenofibric acid and fenofibrate?

"Fenofibrate is a type of fenofibric acid, and after humans consume it orally, it is turned into its active metabolite with no trace of the original compound found in the bloodstream. Fenofibric acid is mostly combined with glucuronic acid before being excreted in urine."

Plozasiran for Hypertriglyceridemia

18+
All Sexes
Santa Clarita, CA
This study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of plozasiran in approximately 288 adult participants with severe hypertriglyceridemia (SHTG) and history of at least two prior acute pancreatitis (AP) events not attributed to other etiologies, with at least one occurring within the last 12 months prior to screening. Eligible participants will be randomly assigned in a double-blind manner to either receive plozasiran 25 mg by subcutaneous (SC) injection every three months (Q3M) or matching placebo. Enrolled participants will be counseled to remain on the specified low-fat diet and background medications throughout the study. Following completion of the double-blind treatment period, or if the participant has a positively adjudicated AP event (whichever occurs first), participants will transition to the 12-month Open-Label Extension (OLE) treatment period receiving plozasiran 25 mg by SC injection Q3M.

Mibavademab for Fat Loss Syndrome

Any Age
All Sexes
Ann Arbor, MI
This study is researching an experimental drug called mibavademab. The study is focused on participants with GLD who have been on metreleptin treatment for at least 6 months with no change in dose for the last 3 months. The aim of the study is to see how safe and tolerable mibavademab is when switching from treatment with metreleptin. The study is looking at several other research questions, including: * What side effects may happen from taking mibavademab * How much mibavademab is in the blood at different times * Whether the body makes antibodies against mibavademab (which could make mibavademab less effective or could lead to side effects)

Supportive Care for High Cholesterol

Clark, NJ
Hypercholesterolemia is recognized as the major driver for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. To help address this in our community, Atlantic Medical Group (AMG) formed a lipid workgroup chaired by Robert D. Fishberg, MD, and Jeffrey N. Feldman, MD. The overarching goal of the lipid workgroup is to enhance the treatment of lipid disorders in those patients with abnormal lipid levels by improving access to resources at the primary care practice level and specialty level. We aim to develop a model for primary and secondary prevention that integrates guidelines for treatment at the practice level. Our primary objective is to identify high-risk patients by utilizing the electronic health record and partnering with patients' primary care providers to provide comprehensive medical management.
