How Klor-Con Affects PatientsPotassium is an important mineral for the function of various body systems, including nerves, muscles, and kidneys. It is typically found in a normal diet and the body usually absorbs and excretes the same amount. However, if too much is lost through the kidneys or the gastrointestinal tract due to certain medications, diarrhea, or vomiting, it can lead to potassium depletion. This can cause tiredness, abnormal heart rhythms, and even paralysis in severe cases. Potassium levels can be restored by eating foods high in potassium or taking potassium supplements. Klor-Con Toxicity & Overdose RiskTaking too much potassium orally usually won't cause serious issues, but when excretory mechanisms are impaired or the drug is taken intravenously too quickly, it can lead to fatal hyperkalemia. Symptoms of hyperkalemia include an increased blood potassium concentration and changes in heart rhythm. If left untreated, it can cause muscle paralysis and even death.

I had a potassium deficiency which was causing some heart problems, but after taking this medication for just a few days I saw a dramatic improvement. I've now been on it for nine months with no issues. Can't swallow pills so my doctor told me to dissolve one in eight ounces of water, then drink it all down. It dissolves quickly but settles at the bottom, so you have to swish it around to get it all. Overall very pleased with this medicine.

These pills are gigantic and they start to dissolve the second they hit my saliva. It's like trying to swallow sand. I have to coat them in butter and that makes it way easier to get down.

I found out that my blood potassium was low when I experienced severe muscle cramps and went to the ER. They prescribed these large pills that are supposed to dissolve in water, but they don't at all! I'm now looking for a different option because taking these is incredibly unpleasant.

I was hospitalized when a stomach virus caused my potassium levels to drop dangerously low. The pills I was prescribed for at-home treatment were absolutely huge and impossible to dissolve in water, as directed. They made me gag every time I tried to take them, so I stopped taking them and am now looking for a different solution.

My husband has cancer and his potassium levels are always low, so he takes 12 pills in the morning and 12 at night. Klor-Con is the only pill he has trouble swallowing--it's a huge oval tablet that isn't coated. I've tried cutting them in half but he still gags on them every time. They get stuck on the way down and he ends up choking them back up. They aren't helping much because he can't get them down!

My husband has to take a lot of pills for his cancer, and this is the only one he can't manage to swallow. They're huge oval tablets that aren't coated, so they get stuck on the way down and he ends up choking them back up. We've tried cutting them in half, but it's still a struggle. Precision-Controlled Ventilation for Cardiac Arrest

Cardiac arrest is a life-threatening emergency that requires immediate treatment with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). While chest compressions circulate blood, manual ventilation provides oxygen to the patient. Current CPR guidelines recommend specific ventilation rates and tidal volumes, but studies show that clinicians often deliver too much or too little ventilation due to a lack of monitoring tools, potentially reducing the effectiveness of CPR and impacting survival. The PRECISION-CPR study is a multi-center, randomized controlled trial designed to evaluate whether using real-time feedback devices to precisely control ventilation during CPR can improve patient outcomes. Adult patients experiencing in-hospital cardiac arrest will be randomized to receive either standard manual ventilation guided by clinician experience or precision-controlled ventilation tailored to the patient's predicted body weight using real-time monitoring devices. The primary outcome of the study will be return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC). Secondary outcomes will include survival to hospital discharge, neurological recovery, and other clinical measures. By addressing the limitations of current ventilation practices, this study aims to generate evidence to guide future resuscitation guidelines and improve survival rates after cardiac arrest.

Propranolol for Chylothorax

Postoperative chylothorax is a serious complication after open heart surgery for pediatric patients with congenital heart disease (CHD). While it was thought to be mechanical injury to the thoracic duct, recent research demonstrated that there are intrinsically abnormal lung lymphatics in CHD patients, and after open heart surgery, the fluid shifts that occur overwhelms these abnormal lung lymphatics. As a result, postoperative chylothorax occurs. Propranolol has been found to be helpful in resolving postoperative chylothorax very quickly (9 days) in a subset of postoperative chylothorax patients (60%). However, it is not known why some patients respond and some do not. The investigators hypothesize that propranolol is safe to use in this patient population, and that certain clinical factors will predict propranolol response, but more importantly, some clinical factors can be optimize to allow more patients with postoperative chylothorax to respond to and benefit from propranolol. In order to improve the understanding of how propranolol works and to maximize benefit to patients, the investigators propose to perform a prospective, randomized, double-blind clinical trial to learn how to best use propranolol in patients with postoperative chylothorax.

Wearable Ultrafiltration Device for Kidney Failure

Kidney failure is common. In some people the ability of the kidneys to clean poisons out of the blood gets so low they need to be hooked up to a machine three times a week to do it for them. This is called dialysis. Unfortunately, although this treatment removes those waste products, people who need dialysis die much more often than people who don't need dialysis. Dialysis causes extreme stress on the body and leads to many organs being damaged. Removing fluid from the body quickly causes the equivalent of repeated little heart attacks or little strokes in the brain. Many patients struggle to tolerate having all the fluid that they have drunk since their last dialysis session removed- without unpleasant symptoms of dangerously low blood pressure (which makes the damage worse). Dialysis treatments can be done more slowly or more often, but that means having to spend a lot more time at the hospital and is difficult for the health system to be able to provide the extra treatment time. Could extra fluid be removed in between dialysis sessions? Up to now there has not been a way to effectively do this. Investigators have now designed and built an entirely new, very small and very simplified, device that can do part of what a dialysis machine does. It doesn't clean the blood or replace the need for conventional dialysis sessions, but it can provide additional and gentle removal of fluid which wasn't able to be taken off during a standard treatment session. If this study is successful, it will be the first time that a wearable device has been successfully built and used to take off extra fluid when dialysis patients are not in the hospital. The ability to do this opens up the possibility of, 1) helping to treat patients (both making people feel better and live longer) who can't tolerate getting off all the fluid in the short 3-4 hours they are on the dialysis machine in the hospital, and 2) helping patients who feel OK having the fluid taken off but are silently being subjected to damage to their organs due to the rapid removal, have reduced damage.

"Move More" Exercise Program for Hemodialysis Patients

The goal of this clinical trial is to compare the efficacy of a standard intradialytic exercise program (control group) to an individualized, patient-centered, "Move-More" physical activity intervention (intervention group) in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Exercise programs often fail to yield robust benefits for many HD patients, in part because the type and volume of exercise prescribed is inappropriate for a variety of reasons, and the benefits from these studies are often disappointing, as they are characterized by poor adherence, high dropout rates, and modest effects on physical function, body composition, cardiovascular disease risk, and other outcomes related to quality of life (QOL). To address this, the investigators have designed a novel physical activity intervention "Move More" that is designed to overcome many of the barriers to increasing physical activity in this population. This study aims to compare the efficacy of a standard intradialytic exercise program (control group) to an individualized, patient-centered, "Move-More" physical activity intervention (intervention group) in HD patients. The investigators primary hypothesis is that patients randomized to the Move More intervention will increase their physical activity levels more than those in the intradialytic exercise group. The main question it aims to answer is: • Does "Move More" increase the physical activity levels (minutes) measured through weekly minutes of physical activity and the LoPAQ questionnaire more than those in the standard intradialytic exercise program? For secondary outcomes this study aims to answer the following: * Does "Move More" improve the physical function of hemodialysis patients assessed by the short physical performance battery (SPBB) more than those in the standard intradialytic exercise program? * Does "Move More" decrease fatigue assess by the SONG-HD survey more than those in the standard intradialytic exercise program? * Does "Move More" decrease symptoms of depression assessed by PROMIS Depression Short Form 8a more than those in the standard intradialytic exercise program? * Does "Move More" increase the amount of exercise measured through a point system more than those in the standard intradialytic exercise program? * Does "Move More" improve blood pressure (BP) more than those in the standard intradialytic exercise program?

AI-Assisted Colonoscopy for Polyp Detection

Based on prior studies, trainee and practicing gastroenterologists miss pre-cancerous polyps (adenomas and serrated polyps) during colonoscopy. The use of computer-aided detection (CADe) systems, a form of artificial intelligence (AI) has been shown to help identify colorectal lesions for practicing gastroenterologists. However, less is known how AI impacts polyp detection for trainees. The investigators are conducting a tandem colonoscopy study wherein a portion of the colon is examined first by the trainee and then the attending physician. For each procedure, randomization will occur which will determine whether or not the trainee will utilize AI for their examination of the colon. At the end of the study, the investigators will determine whether AI helps trainees miss fewer polyps during colonoscopy. The investigators will also conduct interviews with trainees to understand how AI impacts colonoscopy training.

Expanded Hemodialysis for Chronic Kidney Disease

The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate the health effects of expanded hemodialysis in patients receiving hemodialysis. The main question it aims to answer is: 1\) Does expanded hemodialysis reduce the risk of death from any cause? Researchers will compare expanded hemodialysis to conventional hemodialysis (the treatment currently used for the majority of patients receiving hemodialysis) to see if expanded hemodialysis works to improve patient outcomes. Participants will continue to receive their regularly scheduled hemodialysis treatments using either a super high-flux/expanded dialysis filter or a high-flux/conventional dialysis filter. All other aspects of treatments remain the same. No additional tests or visits are required. Data will be obtained using administrative healthcare databases and medical record review (at a subset of participating locations).
