Summary
This trial is testing if live music therapy can help lung transplant patients feel less pain and anxiety, use fewer medications, stay in the hospital for a shorter time, and sleep better. The therapy involves a music therapist playing the patient's favorite music.
Who is the study for?
This trial is for post-lung transplant patients at UTSW Clements University Hospital starting June 1, 2021. It's not suitable for those whose chests were left open after surgery and before being taken back to the OR for closure.
What is being tested?
The study tests if live music therapy can lower anxiety and pain, reduce use of benzodiazepines and pain meds, shorten ICU/hospital stay, and improve sleep quality in post-lung transplant patients.
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial involves music therapy rather than medication or invasive procedures, significant side effects are not expected. However, individual responses to music therapy may vary.

Other Research
Common treatments for lung transplant complications include immunosuppressive medications to prevent rejection, antibiotics to treat infections, and therapies to manage chronic conditions like bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome. Complementary therapies, such as music therapy, play a crucial role by providing relaxation, reducing anxiety, and improving mood, which can enhance overall recovery and quality of life.
These therapies are particularly important as they offer non-pharmacological options to manage pain and stress, potentially reducing the need for additional medications and their associated side effects.
