Summary
This trial is testing whether making healthier kids' meal options more appealing and easier to choose in restaurants can improve diet quality, reduce excess energy intake, and shape healthy habits.
Who is the study for?
This trial is for families who dine out at least once a week with children aged 4-8, without food allergies that limit safe participation. Parents or guardians must be over 18 and fluent in English. Families already part of the pilot phase are excluded.
What is being tested?
The study tests if making healthier kids' meals more appealing through special placemats and rewards can influence children's choices towards better eating habits in restaurants. One group gets these tools (intervention), while the other has standard options (control).
What are the potential side effects?
There are no direct medical side effects as this is not a drug trial; however, changes in diet may affect each child differently. Some might experience initial resistance to new foods or changes in digestion due to dietary adjustments.

Corresponding signage will be displayed in the restaurant.
Group II: Generic placemats and frequent diner cardsActive Control1 Intervention
Participants will receive generic placemats listing all of the restaurant's kids' meals. Families will also receive a generic frequent diner card, which after purchasing (any) kids' meals across 6 occasions, makes them eligible for a free kids' meal of their choice during a predetermined redemption period. Corresponding signage will be displayed in the restaurant.
