Summary
This trial is testing whether drinking beet-root juice and using red light therapy can help older adults over 65 improve their forearm muscle endurance. Beet-root juice may boost blood flow to muscles, while red light therapy might help muscles work better and recover quicker. The study will compare these treatments alone and together. Beetroot juice has been shown to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and vasodilatory effects, which may improve blood flow and muscle recovery.
Who is the study for?
This trial is for healthy older adults over 65 who exercise lightly to moderately at least three times a week. It's not for those with liver or kidney disease, recent smokers, people with joint pain in the dominant hand, gastritis, thyroid conditions, or those on medications that interact with nitrates.
What is being tested?
The study tests if beet-root juice and red light therapy can help forearm muscles last longer without getting tired. Older adults will try these treatments separately and together against placebo (fake treatment) and sham light to see which helps muscle endurance more.
What are the potential side effects?
Beet-root juice might cause stomach issues or turn urine pink but is generally safe. Red-light therapy could lead to eye strain if not used properly. Placebos and sham lights have no active components so they should not cause any direct side effects.

Other Research
Common treatments for Health Care Utilization, such as beet-root juice supplementation and red light therapy, work through distinct mechanisms. Beet-root juice enhances nitric oxide production, which improves blood flow and muscle function.
Red light therapy stimulates cellular function and energy production through photobiomodulation. These mechanisms are important for Health Care Utilization patients as they can lead to improved physical performance, reduced muscle fatigue, and better overall vascular health, potentially decreasing the need for medical interventions.
