Summary
This trial is to study a novel targeted treatment for depressed parents of children with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD). The aim is to see if the treatment is feasible and acceptable, and if the parents stick to the study protocol.
Who is the study for?
This trial is for parents over 18 with children aged 6-10 who have significant emotional or behavioral difficulties. Parents must be able to participate in group therapy, speak English, and not have severe mental health issues like active suicidal thoughts or substance abuse. Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder or Intellectual Disability are excluded.
What is being tested?
The ADAPT program aims to help parents of children with emotional and behavioral difficulties by addressing parental depression and teaching positive parenting techniques. The study will assess the feasibility, acceptability, and adherence to this novel treatment approach.
What are the potential side effects?
Since this intervention involves psychological therapy rather than medication, side effects may include discomfort from discussing personal issues in a group setting but are generally considered low-risk compared to drug treatments.
